Doonbeg Regatta

For the uninitiated, a currach is a traditional Irish boat with a wooden frame over which animal skins were once stretched, though now canvas is universally used. Traditionally a fishing boat, they are now used for competition, with crews of both men and women from across Ireland competing over the summer months.

With competitors travelling from Galway and Kerry to compete with our local West Clare rowers, a great day of racing and family entertainment is guaranteed. It’s a great family day out – gathering at the harbour to watch competitors demonstrate their skills in the use of these traditional sea fishing boats.

A Regatta will take place in August.
